Amendment I

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This Amendment is one of the most important in my eyes. It helps to protect thousands of people from religious persecution and guarantees a voice to the people. Despite the current political climate's feelings on the press and protesting, these rights are forever protected and remain to give the people a chance to comment on things enacted by the government that they disagree with.

Despite the first amendment's intention to allow all people equal access to these rights, there are people who believe that they have a greater right to utilize their freedom of speech or assembly or press than others, and use their platforms to put down others. Politicians and CEOs in particular use the press and speech to manipulate their opposition and try to silence their voice.

The First Amendment exists to protect all rights of press and speech and it is what allows political cartoonists to create images like the one above. The illustrator and writer of this political cartoon were speaking out against gun control and how guns can now be 3D printed. Despite how others may feel about gun control, the creators of this piece have the direct right to say it.
